What food do you eat for lunch at school?
The bell rings and it's time for lunch at school. And you have a lot of control over what you eat at school. You can choose to eat only junk food or you can choose food that will give you energy and help you grow well. So what is the right kind of food? There are many answers to this question.
If you bring a lunch box from home then there are many possibilities for you as you can bring the food you like best, your favourite healthy food. It's a lunch just for you.
Some steps to a great lunch
- Choose fruits and vegetables.They make your plate more colourful and they have fiber and vitamins.You can have two servings at lunchtime. For example, 1/2 a cup of carrots and an orange .
- Remember to include grains in your lunchbox. If the grains are whole, then they are better!
- Have a balanced lunch. Include food from the different food groups.For example, some grains, some protein, some vegetables and fruit and dairy products such as yoghurt or cheese. A variety of food is what counts.
- Avoid fatty food. Foods that are high in fat are french fries, hot dogs, chicken nuggets.You may love these foods but try to have them less often or in smaller portions.
- Drinks are important too. Have plain water instead of juice drinks and sodas.You can also have milk if you like it!
- Variety counts too. Do you always have the same food in your lunch box? Do you always have the same sandwich and fruit. Always hotdogs? Try something new . There are many recipes you can try!
